About the Author
Kenneth A Kim is an associate professor of finance at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Buffalo, the Academic Director of its Singapore EMBA Program, and the former Chair of its MBA and PhD Programs. In 2008, Dr Kim received the Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence in 2008, which is the most prestigious teaching award in the state of New York consisting of 64 public colleges and universities. Dr Kim has previously held a variety of academic appointments at 16 different universities around the world, including the University of Tokyo, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Renmin University of China, Georgetown University, and the University of Michigan. Dr Kim consults for various businesses and organizations including money managers, financial institutions, stock exchanges, governments, and other regulatory bodies in the areas of international finance, Asian financial markets, and financial markets regulation. During 1998 and 1999, he worked as a senior financial economist at the US Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, DC, where he worked on a wide variety of corporate finance and governance issues. Dr Kim's primary research interests include corporate finance, corporate governance, behavioral finance, and Asian financial markets. His research has been highlighted in the financial press including The Wall Street Journal, The Financial Times, NewsWeek and BusinessWeek. He has articles published in the Journal of Finance, Journal of Business, Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of Financial Intermediation, Journal of Empirical Finance, Journal of Financial Markets, Journal of Banking and Finance, and Journal of Financial Research, among other leading academic journals. Author of two textbooks, Corporate Governance and Global Corporate Finance, Dr Kim received his PhD in Finance from the University of Rhode Island, his MBA from the University of Detroit Mercy, and his BA in Economics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. Suk H Kim, a professor of international finance, is the discipline coordinator of finance and international business at the University of Detroit Mercy. Professor Kim has authored or coauthored about 20 books and 50 peer-reviewed academic journal articles. According to an article by Allen Morrison and Andrew Ipken (The Journal of International Business Studies, First Quarter, 1991), Professor Kim was among the top 25 international business researchers of the 1980s. His articles have appeared in the Journal of International Business Studies, The Columbia Journal of World Business (now the Journal of World Business), Management Accounting (now Strategic Finance), The Engineering Economist, and several others. He was the Fulbright scholar at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, in 1992. Professor Kim was the founder-editor of two prestigious academic journals: Multinational Business Review (MBR: 1992 2002) and North Korean Review (NKR: 2005 2013). The editorial office of MBR is now housed at St. Louis University and is published by Emerald in the United Kingdom. The editorial office of NKR is now housed at Yonsei University in Korea and is published by McFarland in the United States. Professor Kim has received numerous awards for excellence in teaching and research. He received his PhD in Finance from St. Louis University, his MBA from Pepperdine University, his MA in Economics from Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, and his BA in Economics from Soongsil University in Seoul, South Korea.

Early in 1983, Time, Inc. launched a new magazine, TV-Cable Week, which promised to provide state-of-the-art programming information to cable owners across the country. Six months later the magazine folded, at a staggering $47 million loss. The author, who had been a senior editor on TV-Cable Week's staff, spent the following two years interviewing key players in the venture, and has produced this account of its rise and fall. The original concept, Byron reports, grew out of Time's felt need for control in the cable industry and credibility on Wall Street. When TV-Cable Week failed to attract distributors, and its losses surpassed projections, Time's corporate leaders abandoned the project they had not market tested. Byron tells an engrossing and plausible behind-the-scenes tale of heroes, villains, secret agendas and suppressed memos, and concludes that when corporate decision makers become preoccupied with profits in disregard of their customers, the result is disaster. Terrific story of an incredible bomb of a magazine

Christopher Byron is an excellent business writer, and in The Fanciest Dive he tells the HBS case study-worthy story of the $50 million failure of Time Inc's ill-fated TV-Cable Week. It is not to be missed, and 22 years later there are still ample lessons to be gleaned from the tale. Business readers will not be disappointed.

What The World Needs a lot less of... is these folks who [Wayne's World] "aren't worthy" to evaluate, judge or even (so subjectively) report on others' endeavors or lives until they take a closer look at their own... sad, but true.

I know speaking in tongues is praying the perfect will of God, but it's true you can become disconnected from praying as much because you may not know what you are praying about.
Since I have began back o have notices an immediate change in people around ne, my discernment and even my response to things is more spiritual then carnal. Making it a point with God's help to practice more.

EMS made easy

This is a good book for new EMS people or "old" ones. It gives a good review of interview questions, signs/symptoms, and the underlying process behind disorders. The reading is kept interesting with clinical stories, and a good breakdown of sections (e.g. tox, abd pain, chest pain, syncope, etc.). I like going back from time to time and reviewing the sections. Definately worth buying.

A fresh approach and a must read for all EMTs and Paramedics

The 60-second EMT is a great book to use as a refresher or to reinforce what the textbooks and classroom have hopefully taught you. The book emphasizes the important and sometimes elusive signs and symptoms that our patients may present with in an easy to read format. The author's story-telling approach is(not a list of tables and endless paragraphs like a textbook)addresses each type of patient (respiratory, geriatric, chest pain, pediatric, abdominal pain, toxicological, etc.)and then offers a practical "60-second assessment" approach for each one in both ALS and BLS treatment algorithms/modules. I encourage every EMS professional to read this book. Whether you are new to the field or have "put in a few years" I think you will find that you learn something new or remind yourself of something you haven't thought of in a while.

Although it's been over two years since I've read (and re-read) this book, I still remember it as being a very useful review. Although its story format is unique, it really doesn't detract from the very valuable lessons that this book has to teach. This is a must-read EMS review for all EMS personnel.

Great book for any martial artist

I don't practice Isshin Ryu but I enjoy reading about martial history. This book was great! It covered much much more than just Isshin Ryu. It's a complete history of Karate literally from the beginning as well as the history of each individual that had an influence throughout the years. Great book, easy to read, I would recommend it to any martial arts history buff!

classic introductory statistics book

Snedecor first wrote this excellent elementary applied text while at Iowa State (late 1940s or early 1950s). When Bill Cochran arrived in Iowa he helped out with the revision. It was very popular and was revised by Cochran many times even after Snedecor died.

Well written and often used in elementary courses this book is also a good reference source for statistical methods. Empahsis in applied statistics in those days was in agricultural experiments and that is the reason statistics was prominent at Iowa State University in those days.

Good Basic Intro

I am the type that likes to learn independently - see how much I can do before going to others.

This book was great for that learning style - there are lots of examples and all the components of the calculations are there to see so you can undertand how the equations work without requiring a lot of extra research.

This is one of the books that I have continuously referenced.

I realy like this book as a reference guide. I design powertrain parts for medium and light duty trucks and passcars. I typically use the formulas in this book to evaluate new designs and patent ideas before a great deal time and money is put into the program just to find out that it wont work. This book is a text book for courses in advanced mechanics at many universities. It retains the strength of materials approach, rather than that of the theory of elasticity, so it is easy to follow for anyone with a basic background in mechanics. I read this book and it absolutely blew my mind. It opened my eyes to what God truly is and why history was rewritten the way it was. There's some heavy research that was involved in writing a book like this but Supreme Understanding took that scholarship and condensed it in a way that the reader could digest easily. No matter what type of religious text you have in your household, this is a book that needs to be right next to it. This expanded follow-up to Weiner's Pulitzer Prize-winning 1988 Philadelphia Inquirer series exposing the Pentagon's secret treasury offers a comprehensive look at the origin and growth of this budget and the weapons and wars it has financed. Among the programs examined are the Stealth bomber (an "impossibly expensive mistake") and a satellite system called MILSTAR which is central to the plan to "win" a nuclear war that will already have been lost in the event of its activation. Weiner brings to light black-budgeted activities of a cadre of colonels, retired generals and CIA agents, a virtual hidden army within the U.S. Army that "came close to hijacking a fair amount of power" during the Reagan years. In this book based on his Pulitzer Prize-winning series of articles for the Philadelphia Inquirer , journalist Weiner probes the way the Pentagon has used secret budgets to fund huge military programs. This has grown to the point that there are now more than 100 multimillion- and multibillion-dollar weapons systems, many of them nuclear weapons designed to fight and win World Wars III and IV, built without the awareness of the public or even the Congress. Weiner takes a close look at programs such as the Stealth bomber and provides fascinating detail from Congressional testimony. The thesis of the book--that secrecy in government military programs is antithetical to democracy--is well documented and hugely important. As the Cold War draws to a close and military budgets come under attack, the public and Congress may tend to forget the defense establishment's inclination toward secrecy and self-perpetuation. Weiner's book serves as a timely reminder that this would be unwise. Highly recommended.

About the Author
Tim Weiner is the author of five books. "Legacy of Ashes", his history of the CIA, won the National Book Award. His journalism on secret government programs received the Pulitzer Prize for national reporting. As a correspondent for The New York Times, he covered war and terrorism in Afghanistan, Pakistan, the Sudan, and other nations. He directs the Carey Institute's nonfiction residency program in upstate New York and teaches as an Anschutz Distinguished Fellow in American Studies at Princeton.

Shameful facts of secret spending of the Pentagon.

This excellent book should be read by every USA taxpayer, civilian and military. Mr. Weiner, with an excellent bibliography, tells it like it is. Without barriers, he gives historical, verifiable--if you desire--facts on the irresposible mechanisms used by USA presidents to advance an empire through the throats of many countries--beginning with the USA itself, and justify murders, lies, frauds, thefts, violations of the USA Constitution, through the military and paramilitar civil agencies such as the CIA, based on the very doubtful and euphemistic principle that almost anything is a threat to USA national security. Excellent book. Written almost 20 years ago it is as updated as if it had been written yesterday.

Money talks! And does it have a story to tell!

Blank Check is a meticulously researched and chilling account of how the Cold War led the nation into a frenzy of spending based on fear and propaganda. The book spans 40 years of government development and National crises from the viewpoint of a checkbook. However, the fact that the book was published before the fall of the Soviet Union means that, to a modern reader, the stories told are a frightening look at times gone by rather than a relevant commentary on modern life. Also, with no central character to latch onto the book, while conscience stirring, is not necessarily compelling. That said, revelations in this book about the government's outright violation of the constitution in the name of National Security still have the ability to leave a reader appalled.

Relevant to Modern DoD Ethics Issues Including Private Contractors

Fantastic book and interesting how useful reading an "older" investigation of the defense department black budget and associated misappropriations/abuses can be in easily tying the very same ethical/strategic defense issues to the more recent "Spies for Hire" by Tim Shorrock (also a fantastic read).

The similarities regarding decades long ethical issues with regard to the lack of oversight within black budget is almost overwhelming while simultaneously intriguing and disheartening: no concrete evidence, whatsoever, that Congressional or other government oversight of black budget operations or DoD contracting, in general, has improved. In fact, following 9/11 the situation, if anything, financial and ethical accountability has actually degraded.

This timeless, still-compelling book provides that much-needed historical perspective yet also begs the question: over the next 10 or 20 years is there any reason to believe money will be spent, appropriately, to truly and measurable advance US National Security with concrete accountability for those instances where projects and leaders fail to act responsibly...at great expense to the American taxpayers actually undermining US defense and war fighter readiness?

About the Author
Donna J. Phinney is the Program Director for the Dental Assisting Program at Spokane Community College. She has spent more than twenty years in the dental field as a dental assistant, a dental office consultant, an office manager and an educator. Donna Phinney holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Eastern Washington University and a Master's Degree in Education from Whitworth College. Ms. Phinney received her fellowship from the American Dental Assistants Association and is a certified dental assistant. She is active in the Washington State Dental Assisting Association, has served as a consultant for the American Dental Association for seventeen years and was a Commissioner for the American Dental Association, appointed by the American Dental Assistants Association.

Judy Halstead is retired after thirty years as a dental assisting instructor and more than fifteen years as a practicing dental assistant. Formerly the dental assisting program director for a private college and a high school skills center, Ms. Halstead was active with local, state, and national Dental Assistant Associations for thirty-five years, serving as president of the Washington State chapter. She often presented lectures and workshops at local, state, and regional dental conferences, and served as an American Dental Association consultant. Ms. Halstead earned a BA from Eastern Washington University, is a certified dental assistant, and holds an expanded functions certificate.

Modern Dental Assisting is 100% better

This text was required for the Century College Dental Assisting program. Thankfully, they keep the same 2 books the entire 2 years of the program. However, both Modern Dental Assisting and this book (we call it Delmar) have basically the same information. MDA is easier to read, has more step-by-step procedures detailed out with photos and is the primary choice for all of the subjects we cover. This text does a better job of detailing the contents of dental cements, but in the end it is more important we know how to mix these cements then know all the ingredients they contain. I sincerely wish the professors could get permission to take what few chapters they feel Delmar does a better job of covering, put them in a binder and let us use that instead of each of us purchasing this book that we mostly ignore. If I did not know about MDA, this book would be fine but since I do know about Modern Dental Assisting, this book is just collecting dust.

Comprehensive. A lot of good Refresher.

Very good book, has pretty much everything in it I needed. I have been a DA already however had been out of it a while when my son past away. I felt I needed to be refreshed before going back and this helped me a lot.
